Sneakerpedia has gone live. Sneakerpedia, a new website by Foot Locker, is basically the wikipedia for sneakerheads. Once registered, users like you, can add information about basically any sneaker ever sold. You can upload new models, pictures and even add a personal story about a particular shoe.
I recently signed-up and browsed through the already 1,000′s of shoes in the online collection. If you find a shoe in the online collection you can “add” that shoe to your online collection. Soon, Sneakerpedia could be the best way for you to keep track of your impressive sneaker addiction and show it off to your friends random online users. However, of the many pairs of adidas I own (many rare and collector’s edition) I found only a hand full had already been entered into the database. This leaves plenty of room for the site to grow and get people involved. So you better get to work!
According to an article on Mashable…
Though modeled after Wikipedia, the site, which launched officially (it has been in beta) on May 17, differs in several respects. There are no writeups, just information about the year a shoe was launched, its brand, type (basketball, running, etc.), the material it’s made of and the color.
The entries also let users record their “personal sneaker stories” and look for related sneakers. At the moment, there’s no link to buy any of the sneakers online. Foot Locker’s branding is also restrained — there’s just one “Powered by Foot Locker” mention below the Sneakerpedia logo. SapientNitro handled the effort.
The site’s navigation isn’t the smoothest and other improvements (like an easy way to eliminate duplicate entries) might make the site more enjoyable but overall the idea and concept of Sneakerpedia seems like one this guy is going to waste lots of time exploring.
